Bob Halderman was one of Richard Nixon's highest White House aides. He was part of the steadfast and loyal body that immediately surrounded the President, who became implicated in a whole series of illegal actions against political opponents and antiwar activists.
Lowell Wicker, Republican Sen., Conn., in concluding his question to Halderman, asks:
“Do you think that President Nixon has dirtied the Presidency by his action?”
Tears sprang to Halderman's eyes. He was silent and flushed. After an agonized moment he stammered his apology for losing control. He had
never spoken a word or changed his body language. The session concluded.
